canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

South Park: TV Series Returns October 5th, Renewed for Seasons 16 & 17

by Trevor Kimball, July 25, 2011

South Park season 16 and 17If the South Park series drives you crazy then this bit of news isn’t going to exactly make your day. Comedy Central has announced that the second half of season 15 will kick off on October 5th, paired with the second season debut of Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time. South Park’s season 15 is comprised of 14 installments and seven new ones remain.

The show’s creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have alluded to possibly ending the series soon but apparently Comedy Central has them under contract for two more years, through 2013. That means that South Park is locked up through season 17.

Naturally, that doesn’t mean that Parker and Stone won’t necessarily have time to work on other projects. Their Broadway musical hit (created with Robert Lopez), The Book of Mormon, recently won a staggering nine Tony Awards and continues to be a big hit. It’s scheduled to go on the tour in late 2012 and possibly open in London as well.

What do you think? How long should South Park go on? Are you glad to hear that the animated series is continuing or do you think it’s time for it to be cancelled?

This show stays so relevant that if it ever got cancelled it’d be a great loss. There’s never been anything like it and I doubt there ever will be.

South Park is a series that can continue going as long as there’s news to make fun of. They often use hot topics to make a parody on, and they can probably keep doing so for many more seasons. It’s totally up to the viewers for how long it keeps funny, when people stop watching the show it’ll stop airing.

Great two more **** seasons.Just what every fans wants.Clearly Comedy Central is just not willing to put the show out of its misery like it deserves. It must be just too big an earner even though it peaked in season 11.

As much as love South Park and think its better than any other cartoon around i do think its time to stop the last few episodes where very very poor for example the Funnybot epsiode was the shittest most unfunny episode of South Park ever! The last few seasons have been pretty poor to be honest. They seem to be running out of ideas imo

I have to agree. Like the funnybot and when Stan turns 10 and things aren’t so funny. The baby one and the centipad were OK. Unless the second half of the season is really good, this won’t be one of my favorite seasons. 4, 10 and 13 were my favorite 3 seasons.

It should go on forever and ever. I HATE jersey shore, you don’t hear me complaining. It’s for adults. It’s not on usually until at least 9:00. So quit complaining people. It’s gotten a lot more for the adults. But it’s still really funny and always commenting on stories in the media. Like Tiger Woods. But it’s still worth keeping forever if we can. I’m a huge fan of The Simpsons and South Park. Both are gold.
