Southland, 227, and The Boondocks: Regina King, TV Series Finale Podcast #49

Actress Regina King began her career as a teenager on the 1980s NBC sitcom 227 with Marla Gibbs and Jackee Harry. King moved on to many high profile movies like Jerry Maguire, Mighty Joe Young, and Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, and TV shows like 24 and Leap of Faith.

She’s also the voice of Huey and Riley on the very popular Boondocks cartoon series. Her latest TV show is Southland, a gritty cop drama that was cancelled on NBC before season two even began and then picked up by TNT.

But, TNT hasn’t decided if they’ll order a third season or not. The ratings haven’t been great so it could go either way.

In this interview, King talks about what attracted her to Southland, working with John Wells, the future of The Boondocks, getting her start on 227, the late Alaina Reed Hall, and where King’s character, Brenda Jenkins, might be today.
