The sitcom follows the DiMeo family, which includes no-nonsense mom Maya (Minnie Driver), husband Jimmy (John Ross Bowie), brainy Ray (Mason Cook), athletic Dylan (Kyla Kennedy), and teenager JJ (Micah Fowler), who has cerebral palsy. Cedric Yarbrough also stars as JJ’s aide.
It seems likely that ABC will renew Speechless. The network already extended the episode order for season one and the show premiered to strong ratings in September, with a 2.03 rating in the 18-49 demo and 7.383 million viewers. Currently, the series is averaging a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demo and 5.583 million viewers, making it one of ABC’s top-rated shows for the 2016-2017 season.
