What’s This TV Show About?

Streaming on the CBS All Access paid subscription platform, Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Jason Isaacs, Shazad Latif, Anthony Rapp, Michelle Yeoh, Mary Wiseman, Chris Obi, Mary Chieffo, James Frain, Rainn Wilson, Terry Serpico, Maulik Pancholy, Damon Runyan, Rekha Sharma, Kenneth Mitchell, Clare McConnell, and Sam Vartholomeos. A prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, the drama follows the crew of the USS Discovery, during the cold war between the Federation and the Klingons. The story centers on First Officer Michael Burnham (Martin-Green), who serves on the USS Shenzhou, before being assigned to the USS Discovery.
 

Season One Ratings

Because Star Trek: Discovery streams on the CBS All Access subscription platform, we will not have access to viewership numbers for this series, unless or until they decide to release them. The Star Trek: Discovery season one premiere, however, did air on the CBS broadcast network. There, it garnered a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.49 million viewers.
 

 

Telly’s Take

Because they are trying to build up their programming slate and attract paying subscribers, I expect CBS All Access will renew Star Trek: Discovery for season two. Granted, I make that prediction with little else to go on but my hungry, hungry gut. Well, that and the fact that the Star Trek franchise is a lucrative one, and I think this is the kind of show that will convince viewers to purchase a subscription. I’ll keep an eye on things though and update this page with any breaking developments. Subscribe for free updates on any Star Trek: Discovery cancellation or renewal news. For now, I will seek my supper somewhere else.
