It looks like Supergirl has a new mother. According to The Hollywood ReporterSmallville star Erica Durance will replace Laura Benanti in season three of the CW TV show.

Durance, who played Lois Lane on Smallville, will take over Benanti’s role of Alura—Supergirl’s (Melissa Benoist) mother. The cast of Supergirl also includes Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Floriana Lima, and Chris Wood.

It seems Benanti is leaving Supergirl due to conflicting work commitments in New York. Durance will taker over her role beginning with season three, which premieres on October 9th at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

This is far from the first casting shakeup to rock the The CW series. Earlier, it was announced that Floriana Lima (Det. Maggie Sawyer) will no longer be a series regular on Supergirl and Calista Flockhart’s role as Cat Grant may be reduced as well for the upcoming season.

What do you think? Do you watch Supergirl? Are you upset that Benanti is leaving the show?
