What’s This TV Show About?
A DC Universe superhero drama, Swamp Thing stars Crystal Reed, Virginia Madsen, Andy Bean, Derek Mears, Henderson Wade, Maria Sten, Jeryl Prescott, Will Patton, Leonardo Nam, Kevin Durand, Jennifer Beals, and Ian Ziering. Based on the DC Comics, the superhero horror drama centers on Dr. Abby Arcane (Reed) who returns to her Louisiana hometown, in order to investigate what is believed to be a lethal swamp-borne virus for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The swamp, it seems, is home to some frightening supernatural secrets. As they start to surface, no one is safe.
Swamp Thing has been cancelled so there won’t be a second season. Could it be revived one day? Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Unless they decide to publicize viewership, it is difficult to predict whether a subscription service like DC Universe will cancel or renew Swamp Thing for season two. Because it is a new platform, and Swamp Thing is a well-known title, I’d usually be more likely to expect a renewal, because DCU is in the process of establishing itself. However, back in April, news broke that production shut down early, and Warner Bros. TV reduced the season one episode order from 13 to 10, due to “creative differences.” This gave rise to speculation that Swamp Thing had been cancelled ahead of its release. Later that month, director James Wan said the first season would premiere as planned, but confirmed the episode reduction. This leads me to suspect that Swamp Thing will either be cancelled, or renewed with a new showrunner. Since this is simply speculation, I’ll keep an eye on the trades and update this page with breaking developments. Subscribe for free Swamp Thing cancellation and renewal alerts.
