This spring, Starz introduced a pair of new series that are TV adaptations of novels. On one hand, they turned to the classics with Howards End, in which may end up being a mini-series. On the other, there’s Sweetbitter, based on the 2016 novel from show Stephanie Danler. Is it “of the moment” enough to reel in a bigger than bite-sized audience? Will Sweetbitter be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
Created by Danler, the Sweetbitter TV show stars Ella Purnell, Tom Sturridge, Caitlin FitzGerald, Paul Sparks, Evan Jonigkeit, Eden Epstein, Jasmine Mathews, Daniyar, Katerina Tannenbaum, Todd Gearhart, Gabriel Gutierrez, Rafa Beatos, and Jimmie Saito. The Starz drama centers on Tess (Purnell), who moves to New York City in search of a new life. Tess is just 22 years old when she hits town. Soon though, she is selected to train at one of the city’s top restaurants. Although she thinks she has landed in a safe place, with a reliable income, Tess quickly gets caught up in the high-energy chaos of the big city dining scene, where she joins a chosen family of her co-workers. Together, they’re trying to taste all that city life has to offer.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
