Sweetbitter: Season Two Renewal Announced for Starz Series

Sweetbitter TV show on Starz: (canceled or renewed?)

Starz is ready for a second course. Deadline reports the network has renewed Sweetbitter for a second season.

Based on the novel by Stephanie Danler, the drama centers on centers on Tess (Ella Purnell), a young woman who begins working at one of NYC’s top restaurants. The cast also includes Tom Sturridge, Caitlin FitzGerald, Paul Sparks, Evan Jonigkeit, Eden Epstein, and Jasmine Mathews.

Starz’s renewal comes as a bit of a surprise. During its first season, Sweetbitter managed pretty low ratings, averaging a .06 in the 18-49 demo and only 164,000 viewers. Still, Starz chief Chris Albrecht seems confident about the series. The network boss teases season two, saying it will further explore Tess’ life and introduce new characters:

Season one gave audiences a taste of the characters and backstory of an upscale New York restaurant, leaving them wanting more – which we will deliver with a second helping of ‘Sweetbitter.’ The immersion of the audience into the world in and around the restaurant will deepen as the series looks further into the complexities of Tess’ awakening and the lives of her new friends and colleagues in the second season.”

What do you think? Have you seen Sweetbitter? Will you watch season two?
