The Abandons has added another big name to its cast. Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Sex Education) will co-star alongside Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) in the upcoming period action drama from Kurt Sutter.
Set in 1850s Oregon, the Netflix series follows a group of families looking to live their lives and make it rich, but they come up against a force that wants to force them off their land. The story will explore the fine line between law and survival, the consequences of violence, and the corrosive power of secrets.
Anderson will play Constance in the Netflix series, the matriarch of a wealthy family who, despite the town’s bias against women, formed a powerful web of allies through money, charm, and ruthlessness. Headey will play Fiona, a devout matriarch.
The show was ordered to series in October 2022. It marks Sutter’s second project for the streaming service since leaving FX. The first is called This Beast, a movie about a trapper’s battle with an elusive creature that’s ravaging an English village in the 1700s.
The premiere date and additional details for The Abandons will be announced later.
