The Buried Life: MTV TV Show Renewed for Season Two

MTV certainly “digs” The Buried Life. The four stars of the reality series announced on The Oprah Winfrey Show that MTV is renewing the series for a second season that will air later this year.

Noah Oppenheim, Head of Development at Reveille Productions, stated, “We’re thrilled they’ll be bringing their adventures and their message back to MTV for another season.”

The Buried Life premiered on the cable channel this past January 18th. It stars four friends — Ben Nemtin, Dave Lingwood, and brothers Duncan and Jonnie Penn — as they travel across North America completing their “bucket list,” or the 100 things they want to do before they die. Every time they cross something off their own lists, they also help a stranger accomplish one of their goals. They challenge each individual they meet to create their own list of things to be accomplished, asking them “What do YOU want to do before you die?”

Four years ago, the friends didn’t see a great future ahead for their generation and started making a list of the things they wanted out of life. The idea came from the Matthew Arnold poem, The Buried Life, which suggests that we become so tied down in our day-to-day lives that we become buried. Since they began their efforts, more than a half million people in over 200 countries have responded.

MTV is promising even more twists when The Buried Life comes back for season two. During the first season, the four friends delivered a baby, reunited family members that hadn’t spoken in seventeen years, and crashed a Playboy Mansion party. They even played basketball at the White House with President Obama, as they crossed #95 off their list. It should be noted that MTV doesn’t help the four friends complete their items. They rely on each other and assistance from the people they meet on the road.
