A White House veteran is headed to The Diplomat for season two. Alison Janney will guest star in the series, reuniting her with fellow West Wing alum Debora Cahn. Cahn began her career as a writer and producer on the later seasons of The West Wing and created The Diplomat.
Starring Keri Russell (above, center), Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh, the Netflix drama follows a newly appointed ambassador, Katherine “Kate” Wyler (Russell), assigned to the United Kingdom. While there, she diffuses an international crisis and makes strategic alliances while adjusting to her new place in the spotlight. Her husband, Hal (Sewell), is the former US ambassador to Lebanon. He struggles with his lack of a posting and the couple’s marriage deteriorates.
Season one of The Diplomat premiered in April 2023, and the drama was renewed just a few weeks later, in May.
In the second season of The Diplomat, Janney will play Vice President Grace Penn.
