Now it is back, with some new faces, but hopefully the same holiday flavor. Will the audience return, or has this cookie crumbled beyond saving? An ABC reality TV show competition, The Great American Baking Show (fka The Great Holiday Baking Show) is a US adaptation of The Great British Bake Off. The series features bakers from around the country going head to head in holiday-themed challenges and eliminations, with the goal of being crowned “America’s Best Amateur Baker.” Anthony Adams returns alongside new co-host, the Spice Girls’ Emma Bunton. Meanwhile, pastry chef Sherry Yard joins returnee Paul Hollywood on the judges’ panel.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. Last year comparison: The third season of The Great Holiday Baking Show averaged a 0.81 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.838 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
