The Jim Gaffigan Show, Impastor: Season Two Renewals for TV Land Comedies

Jim Gaffigan Show, Impastor TV show on TV Land: season 2It seems that TV Land is truly committed to their new single-camera comedies. The cable channel has renewed both The Jim Gaffigan Show and Impastor for second seasons.

Set in New York City, The Jim Gaffigan Show revolves around a fictionalized version of comedian/author/actor Jim Gaffigan as he struggles to find a balance between fatherhood, stand-up comedy, and an insatiable appetite. The rest of the cast includes Ashley Williams, Adam Goldberg, Michael Ian Black, and Tongayi Chirisa.

On Impastor, slacker Buddy Dobbs (Michael Rosenbaum) has a big gambling debt and is about to jump off a bridge to kill himself. A reverend happens by and tries to stop him. When the pastor accidentally falls to his doom, Buddy is left with the unlikely opportunity to steal the man’s identity. The rest of the cast includes Aimee Garcia, Sara Rue, Mircea Monroe, Mike Kosinski, and David Rasche.

While the TV Land ratings have been pretty low, the comedies have been simulcast on Nick-at-Nite and the shows have been drawing slightly better numbers there. No doubt the execs looked at the combined ratings when deciding on the renewals.

Gaffigan’s been averaging a 0.16 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 640,000 viewers on TV Land and a 0.21 demo with 690,000 on Nick-at-Nite.

Meanwhile, Impastor’s been averaging a 0.11 demo rating with 480,000 viewers on TV Land and 0.17 in the demo with 530,000 viewers on Nick-at-Nite.

TV Land Eexecutive VP Keith Cox said, “We’re really proud of these shows that represent the new TV Land. They have quality writing and great casts, and we’re excited to move on to season two for both.”

Meanwhile, The Exes and The Soul Man, the last of the cable channel’s multi-camera sitcoms, have been cancelled. The former will end its run next month while the latter will have its final season next year.

What do you think? Do you like The Jim Gaffigan Show and/or Impastor? Are you glad they’ve been renewed for second seasons or should they have been cancelled instead?
