The Sandman TV show on Netflix: canceled or renewed for season 2?

(Netflix)

The Sandman has topped the viewing charts on Netflix since its release earlier this month, but that might not be enough to guarantee a second season, per Variety. This news comes from Neil Gaiman, an executive producer on the show and the writer of the original comic book series.

A dark fantasy series, The Sandman stars Tom Sturridge, Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, and Patton Oswalt. In the story, there is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep – a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities – both cosmic and human – along the way.

So far, The Sandman has been viewed for more than 127 million hours on Netflix. Check out Gaiman’s messages about the future of the show on Twitter.

Joe Hill, the man behind Locke & Key, responded to one of Gaiman’s tweets with the following:
