The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Deadline reports Michael Gandolfini has joined the upcoming Sopranos prequel movie.
Gandolfini is, of course, the son of series star James Gandolfini, who played Tony Soprano on the acclaimed HBO drama for six seasons. The cast also included Edie Falco, Michael Imperioli, Lorraine Bracco, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Tony Sirico, and Vincent Pastore.
Michael Gandolfini will be playing a young Tony Soprano in the Sopranos prequel movie, which is set during the 1960s Newark riots. He joins fellow cast members Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Jon Bernthal, Billy Magnussen, and Corey Stoll.
From Michael Gandolfini:
It’s a profound honor to continue my dad’s legacy while stepping into the shoes of a young Tony Soprano. I’m thrilled that I’m going to have the opportunity to work with David Chase and the incredible company of talent he has assembled for The Many Saints of Newark.”
