The Voice: Season 17; NBC Vocal Competition Renewed

Though the ratings continue to drop, The Voice TV show continues to hit the right notes for NBC. To the surprise of no one, the peacock network has renewed the singing competition for season 17 for Fall 2019 and will have the same judges as season 16. It’s presumed that the series will also return for season 18 for Spring 2020.

Hosted by Carson Daly, The Voice singing competition typically airs twice weekly — on Monday and Tuesday nights. In the 16th cycle, John Legend joined returning coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. The competition is divided into five stages: blind auditions, battle rounds, knockouts, playoffs, and live performances. For season 16, the coaches enlisted music industry heavyweights to prepare their artists for the battle rounds. Legend teams up with Khalid; Clarkson with Kelsea Ballerini; Levine with Charlie Puth; and Blake Shelton with Brooks and Dunn.

The Monday editions of the 16th season of The Voice are averaging a 1.60 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic and 8.98 million viewers. Compared to the Monday episodes of the Spring 2018 cycle, that’s down by 18% in the demo and down by 10% in viewership, respectively. The Tuesday editions are averaging a 1.33 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic and 8.74 million viewers. Compared to the Tuesday episodes of the Spring 2018 cycle, that’s down by 22% in the demo and down by 4% in viewership.

Though the ratings are not what they used to be, both the fall and spring cycles of The Voice have continued to be among NBC’s highest-rated shows of the 2018-19 season.

Music’s Biggest Superstars Return to Their Red Chairs for Season 17 of NBC’s Four-Time Emmy Award-Winning Series

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – May 10, 2019 – Superstars Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton are all set to return as coaches for the upcoming 17th season of the four-time Emmy Award-winning musical competition series “The Voice.” Carson Daly also returns as host.

The current season continues with the Top 8 performance show on Monday, May 13 (8-10 p.m. ET/PT). The Top 8 artists perform in front of the coaches for America’s vote, and in a “Voice” first, the Top 8 will pair up to perform duets on songs from the Beatles, history’s most celebrated band. The Top 4 finalists will be revealed on the live show airing Tuesday, May 14 (9-10 p.m.).

This season the Monday and Tuesday editions of “The Voice” are combining to average a 2.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 11.1 million viewers overall in “live plus seven day” Nielsens. The Monday edition has won the timeslot versus regular broadcast competition with 22 of 23 telecasts to date in 18-49 (“live plus same day”) and leads the timeslot versus regular Big 4 competition in every key ratings category.

“The Voice” is a presentation of MGM Television, Talpa Media USA Inc., Warner Horizon Unscripted & Alternative Television. The series was created by John de Mol, who serves as executive producer along with John de Mol, Mark Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Amanda Zucker, Kyra Thompson and Stijn Bakkers.
