The Whispers: Cancelled by ABC; No Season Two

The Whispers TV show canceled by ABC; no season 2ABC has renewed some of their summer TV series but The Whispers isn’t one of them. The drama won’t be returning for a second season. To no surprise, the network has cancelled The Whispers after one season of 13 episodes.

On The Whispers, several Washington, DC children start talking about and playing with an imaginary friend. When their mysterious games turn dangerous, FBI child specialist Claire Bennigan (Lily Rabe) is called in to investigate. The rest of the cast includes Barry Sloane, Milo Ventimiglia, Derek Webster, Kristen Connolly, Kylie Rogers, and Kyle Harrison Breitkopf.

The series debuted in June to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.66 million viewers. That was a decent start for a summer series but the ratings took a big drop in week two and got much worse as the weeks progressed. The season ended up averaging a 0.83 demo rating with 3.43 million.

ABC let the options on the cast expire at the end of June. Despite that and the low ratings, network execs were supposedly still considering bringing the series back for a second season. Ventimiglia has since confirmed that that won’t be happening.

Sloane recently shared an image that shows an inside joke with the cast and crew.

Ventimiglia retweeted and joked that “it was always f***** aliens. The best times my brother. Miss em.”

Unfortunately, the fans of the summer series were left with a cliffhanger ending.  Hopefully, at some point, the producers will share what might have been.

What do you think? Did you like The Whispers TV show on ABC? Would you have watched a second season? On another channel?
