The Winchesters is the latest series cancelled by The CW, but viewers could see the series still return for a second season.

Starring Meg Donnelly, Drake Rodger, Jonathan ”JoJo” Fleites, Nida Khurshid, Demetria McKinney, Bianca Kajlich, and Jensen Ackles (as narrator, above), The Winchesters is a spin-off of Supernatural, which aired for 15 seasons. The series follows Sam and Dean’s parents, Mary and John Winchester, as they fight to save the world while falling in love.

The series debuted in October and ended its first season run of 13 episodes on March 7th on The CW. The cancellation was likely due to the network being under new ownership and its new focus on unscripted and lower-cost scripted programming.

Per Deadline, Jensen and Danneel Ackles executive produce the show via their banner Chaos Machine Productions. Chaos Machine produced in association with Warner Bros. TV and CBS Studios.

The cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise, so Warner Bros. TV has been prepping to shop the series elsewhere. The word is that the studio will be aggressively trying to find a new home for the show Jensen Ackles isn’t wasting any time trying to mobilize fans of the series and letting potential new homes for the spin-off know that there is still interest in a second season.
