UnREAL: Ioan Gruffudd Joins Season Two of Lifetime Series

If there’s a Six Degrees of Cancellation game, we have a contender. Variety reports Ioan Gruffudd has joined the second season cast of the UnREAL TV series on Lifetime. Gruffudd starred as Henry Morgan on Forever, which was cancelled by ABC after one season.

He also played opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar, as Andrew Martin, on Ringer, which was cancelled by The CW, also after one season. Andrew’s romantic rival on Ringer was Henry Butler (Kristoffer Polaha). Polaha was UnREAL star Shiri Appleby’s love interest on Life Unexpected, which The CW cancelled after two seasons.

According to the Variety report, on UnREAL, Gruffudd will recur as tech billionaire, John Booth. The character takes a shine to Quinn King. Quinn executive produces Everlasting, the fictional “reality” dating series featured in UnREAL. Here’s more about the new character:

 

The recurring character is described as ruggedly handsome, optimistic and curious with the breezy demeanor of a man who owns the world. He’s quick minded, adventurous, has a good sense of humor, and no challenge is too huge for him.

Last season, “Everlasting” producer Quinn ended her messy and volatile relationship with the dating show’s creator Chet (Craig Bierko) — and with Gruffudd’s character setting his sights on her, perhaps he will a new love interest for Quinn.

The new season of “UnReal” will feature “Everlasting’s” first-ever African-American suitor, which is a huge get for Quinn and Rachel (Shiri Appleby). The ladies of the fictional reality show will battle for the heart of Darius Hill, played by BJ Britt.

 

Quinn is played by Constance Zimmer. No stranger to the Six Degrees of Cancellation game (the rules of which this reporter is trying to think), Zimmer has been on cancelled series including The Newsroom, Love Bites, and Joan of Arcadia.

For all this cancellation talk, Lifetime renewed UnREAL for a second season after only three episodes. The UnREAL renewal announcement, said UnREAL averaged more than 4.8 million views across all available platforms. It was the network’s youngest scripted series, drawing viewers with a median age of 43. That means there are plenty of fans in the important 19-49 year old ratings demographic.
