TV show description:
This dramatic series is set in Portland, Oregon. It revolves around a teenage girl who lives in the foster system until she takes control of her life and sets things in motion to become an emancipated minor.
In the process of filing papers for this important step in her life, Lux (Brittany Robertson) finds her biological dad, Nate “Baze” Basile (Kristoffer Polaho). He’s a bar owner who still doesn’t have much responsibility, living above the bar he owns with two roommates. He never knew of her existence and is shocked to find he has a teenage daughter.
Baze fills Lux in on the identity of her mother, Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby). She’s the co-host of a local radio show and lives with her on-air partner, Ryan Thomas (Kerr Smith). In all of the years that Lux has listened to the radio show, she never imagined she was hearing her biological mom. Baze introduces them and there’s an instant connection. Cate is shocked to find out that her baby, which she was assured would be adopted by a good family, instead spent her life moving through the foster care system. Though the years have passed and she’s older and wiser, Cate still doesn’t want the commitment of a daughter, yet she does want to be a part of Lux’s life.
Lux goes to court hoping for that emancipation, yet the judge declares she isn’t ready for that step just yet. Instead of putting her back in the foster care system, the judge grants custody to Baze and Cate, who reluctantly agree.
Lux has several friends from her old life, including best friend Tasha (Ksenia Solo) and Tasha’s boyfriend, Gavin (Rhys Williams). Lux’s boyfriend is Bobby “Bug” Guthrie (Rafi Gavron), a guy who sometimes gets in trouble with the law.
