Vikings: Season Four Renewal Coming for History Series?

Vikings TV show: season 4The ratings for History’s Vikings TV show were down in season two — dipping more than 20% when compared to the first season’s numbers.

In addition, last week’s third season debut drew a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.8 million viewers. That was more than 20% lower than the second season’s premiere of a 1.3 in the demo and 3.56 million.

Despite the declining numbers, it looks like Vikings will see a fourth season. An article in the Sunday Times in the UK says that producers “stumped up €45m” in tax breaks to fund the fourth season of the series. The funding round was closed on February 12th, a day before the Revenue Commissioners ended the Section 481 tax break.

It’s understood that the money will fund 16 episodes of the show which is filmed mostly at Ashford Studios in Co Wicklow and in the surrounding countryside. Preparation work is being done now and production is expected to begin in May.

What do you think? Do you like the Vikings TV show? Do you think that it should be renewed for a fourth season or cancelled instead?
