Another player is interested in returning to Weeds. The possibility of a revival was first reported in May. Showtime is developing a revival of the popular comedy-drama series that aired on the cable network for eight seasons between 2005-12. Christian Torpe would write and executive produce the series.

Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins, Hunter Parrish, Kevin Nealon, Alexander Gould, Justin Kirk, Andy Milder, Allie Grant, and Romany Malco starred in the original series. Parker is set to return for the new incarnation. The original comedy follows housewife and mom Nancy Botwin (Parker) as she finds creative ways to support her family after the death of her husband. The revival would reportedly take Nancy to Copenhagen.

Nancy might not be alone. Perkins (above) says that she is open to returning for the Weeds revival. She played narcissistic neighbor Celia Hodes for the show’s first five seasons.

Perkins said the following about the return of the Showtime series, per Variety:

“I’d be on board. I loved working with Mary-Louise Parker. I love those two characters together, Nancy and Celia!

You work your whole life like hoping for a great ensemble and a great ensemble comedy — which just doesn’t happen a whole lot anymore. Usually it’s on network.

I actually ended up watching the entire [first] season twice and I loved it so much. So when they asked me, ‘Hey, do you want to come on board?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll bring coffee to the set because it’s such a great group.”

Showtime is still developing the revival, which has not been officially ordered to series yet. However, the project fits in with the network’s new strategy.

Under Chris McCarthy, President and CEO of Media Networks at Paramount, Showtime will focus on content in three lanes: anti-heroes, powerful worlds, and diverse cultures. The cable network is investing in properties it owns and is turning familiar shows like Billions and Dexter into franchises.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Weeds? Do you want to see Nancy back on the small screen?
