Where Are They Now? Some Greenroom Chatter for December 17, 2008

One of the most frustrating realities of series television is that sooner or later, our favorite TV shows will likely be cancelled. Fortunately, many of the actors that bring our favorite characters to life go on to other TV shows and films. Here’s what a few of them have been up to…

Brittany Robertson (Swingtown) has landed the lead role in an hour pilot for the CW. Light Years is a family dramedy that revolves around a 15-year-old girl (Robertson); a foster kid who tracks down her birth parents who turn out to be a female radio show host and an immature bar owner.

Florence Henderson (The Brady Bunch) is headed back to ABC for a sitcom appearance. The former Mrs. Brady will play Christina Applegate’s grandma on Samantha Who? She’ll come to town to settle a disagreement between Samantha’s mother (Jean Smart) and aunt (Christine Ebersole).

FX’s Nip/Tuck may be ending but not before Jessica Collins (Tru Calling) and Mark Deklin (The Ex List) stop by. They’ll play a couple who have a strange fixation with Ken and Barbie and want to have surgery to emulate the dolls.

Tune in to FOX’s Fringe in January to catch a mini-Dawson’s Creek reunion. Joshua Jackson and the rest of the team will cross paths with the mother of the science assistant that was killed in Walter’s lab 20 years ago. The mom will be played by Mary Beth Peil who played “Grams” Ryan on Dawson’s.

It looks like, Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) may be returning to primetime television. She’s been tapped to play the lead in an as-yet-untitled sitcom for ABC, written by Alex Herschlag (Will & Grace). Graham will play a self-help expert who teaches women how to live stress-free lives. Unfortunately, she finds that advice isn’t so easy to follow when her boyfriend dumps her.

Adhir Kalyan (Aliens in America) has landed a role in a John Stahlberg comedy film. High School co-stars Adrien Brody (The O.C.) and Michael Chiklis (The Shield). Kalyan will next be seen in Youth in Revolt with performers like Fred Willard (Back to You), Jean Smart (Designing Women), Zach Galifianakis (Tru Calling), Ray Liotta (Smith), and Erik Knudsen (Jericho).

Craig T. Nelson (Coach) has been tapped for a three-episode arc on CSI: NY. On the CBS drama, he’ll play a powerful publisher from the Big Apple who’s the nemesis of Gary Sinise’s Mac Taylor. In June of next year, you’ll be able to see Nelson in theaters in a comedy called The Proposal. Joining him will be other TV veterans like Betty White (Bob), Mary Steenburgen (Joan of Arcadia), and Michael Mosley (Kidnapped).

It’s been 10 years since Jaleel White played nerdy Steve Urkel on Family Matters. Since then, he’s had plenty of roles on TV and in films. He’s now added screenwriter to his list of credits. He’s written Did You Get My Text, a feature film set to be helmed by veteran sitcom director Joel Zwick (Full House). The movie’s about a female reported who meets Mr. Right via text message, only to have the couple’s friends mess things up. Stay tuned!
