Where Are They Now? Some Greenroom Chatter for November 19, 2008

Some of our best TV shows may be dead and gone but the actors who played the great characters are still around. You just never know where they might pop up. Check out the latest casting tidbits from the greenroom…

Julie Benz (Hi Honey, I’m Home!, currently Dexter) has booked a lead role as a special agent in Boondock Saints II: All Saint’s Day. Like the original, this one will star TV show veterans like Sean Patrick Flanery (The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles), Billy Connolly (Head of the Class), and Judd Nelson (Suddenly Susan). In the more immediate future, watch for Benz in Saw V and Punisher: War Zone.

Lauren Hutton (Falcon Crest), Glenne Headly (Monk), and Gary Cole (2002’s Family Affair) have joined the cast of The Joneses, a feature starring David Duchovny (The X-Files) and Demi Moore. The movie follows a seemingly ideal family of four who move into a quiet suburban community. It’s not long before some of their neighbors realize that there’s more to the Joneses than meets the eye.

Tracy Pollan (Family Ties) has been signed for three episodes of NBC’s Medium. She’ll be playing a “corporate intuitionist” who tries to lure psychic Allison into appearing at her corporate workplace. Quite naturally, she’s up to no good. The Patricia Arquette series is expected to return in January and just received an order for additional installments, bringing the season five order to 19 episodes.

Joshua Malina (Big Shots) has been cast as a recurring character on USA’s Burn Notice series and recently shot a guest spot on MRC’s now-cancelled Valentine series. Hopefully the latter episode will still be aired.

Kevin McKidd (Journeyman) is joining the cast of Grey’s Anatomy as a series regular. He’ll be playing an Iraq war veteran named Dr. Owen Hunt on the ABC drama. He’ll also be the love interest of Dr. Yang (Sandra Oh). Interestingly, McKidd worked with Grey’s Patrick Dempsey earlier in the year on the Made of Honor feature.

Richard Jenkins (Six Feet Under) has joined the cast of the romantic drama, Dear John. The film also stars Amanda Seyfried (Veronica Mars) and Leslea Fisher (Surface), and began filming in South Carolina last month.

Todd Grinnell (Four Kings) is being tapped to play a plastic surgeon on Desperate Housewives. One of the residents of Wisteria Lane is apparently going to be going under the knife. On the big screen, you’ll be able to see Grinnell in the Hysteria thriller alongside TV vets like J.D. Walsh (Dharma & Greg), Vince Vieluf (Love, Inc.), and Laura Allen (Dirt).

Look for Dean Cain (Clubhouse) to star in an upcoming Western movie called Kingdom Come for the Hallmark Channel. He’ll play a conman who competes with a character played by James Tupper (Men in Trees). They both want the same land and the love of Allison Hossack (Falcon Beach). The project is expected to air mid-2009. Stay tuned!
