ABC 2014-15 Season Ratings (updated 9/21/15)

ABC certainly needs new shows that are a hit in the ratings. They didn’t have much luck last season. Will this year be different or will much of their new crop of TV shows be cancelled as well?

There’s lots of data that network execs looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. These charts will be updated daily, as new ratings data becomes available.

ABC shows (so far): 20/20, 500 Questions, America’s Funniest Home Videos, American Crime, The Astronaut Wives Club, The Bachelor, Bachelor in Paradise, The Bachelorette, BattleBots, Black-ish, Boston EMS, Castle, Celebrity Family Feud, Celebrity Wife Swap, Cristela, Dancing with the Stars, Extreme Weight Loss, Forever, Fresh Off The Boat, Galavant, The Goldbergs, The Great Christmas Light Fight, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, In An Instant, Last Man Standing, Manhattan Love Story, Marvel’s Agent Carter, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, The Middle, Mistresses, Modern Family, Nashville, Once Upon a Time, Primetime: What Would You Do?, Repeat After Me, Resurrection, Revenge, Rookie Blue, Save My Life: Boston Trauma, Scandal, Secrets and Lies, Selfie, Shark Tank, The Taste, and The Whispers.

A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.

Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.

Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking.

The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.

Note: Due to Nielsen reportings glitch, some ratings for Modern Family, SHIELD, Once Upon a Time, Nashville, and Revenge have been adjusted downward. Nielsen has only released restated numbers for the first week of the season (9/22-9/28/14) so far.
