Despite another sizable slide in the ratings last year, the Black-ish TV show was in no danger of cancellation. Thanks to its demo numbers, the family comedy remained a top-five performer for ABC, was in the top 10 in terms of total audience size, and spawned a Freeform spin-off called Grown-ish. This fourth installment ensures it will have sufficient episodes for a salable syndication package, so will Black-ish be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
An ABC sitcom, Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Yara Shahidi, Marcus Scribner, Miles Brown, Marsai Martin, Peter Mackenzie, Jeff Meacham, Jenifer Lewis, Deon Cole, and Laurence Fishburne. Dre (Anderson) and Rainbow (Ross) Johnson want to give their children the best, and they’re determined that best will include a strong sense of cultural identity and respect for the past, as their foundation for a bright future. In the fourth season, with DeVante home, the whole Johnson family needs to adapt to the realities of having a new baby under their roof.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

For comparisons: The third season of Black-ish averaged a 1.52 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.167 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
