While best known as Princess and later General Leia Organa, in the Star Wars movie franchise, the late Carrie Fisher often worked in television, too. Sharon Horgan who, along with Rob Delaney co-created the Catastrophe TV show, posted a tribute to the deceased star and her final TV role on that series.
Fisher has guest starred as Rob’s (Delaney) mother, Mia, since the first season of Catastrophe. She appeared in a total of four episodes during the British sitcom’s first two seasons, and reprises the role in Catastrophe season three, which has already wrapped production. In the US, you can stream Catastrophe on Prime Video, while in the UK, the comedy airs on Channel 4.
As previously reported, both Amazon and Channel 4 have renewed Catastrophe through its fourth season. There is no word yet, on whether the show will address Mia’s absence in season four.
Sharon Horgan Remembers Carrie Fisher on the Catastrophe TV Series on Amazon and Channel 4
After learning of Fisher’s passing, Horgan posted a photo of Fisher and herself to Instagram, adding:
Carrie was my friend. It took me three series but I got her in the end. She was the most generous, fun, gifted, smart, kind, funny funny funny person I’ve ever met. She certainly wasn’t ready to go. I’m so glad we became pals. I’m so devastated at her loss. I want to write about her more but I can’t process yet.
Horgan had posted the same photo a week prior, with the caption, “Me, General Leia and Kylo Ren’s hand on the set of #catastrophe3.”
Back in April, Vulture reported on how Delaney and Horgan came to realize Fisher would be perfect as Catastrophe‘s Mia:
Catastrophe co-creator Sharon Horgan knew the very moment she wanted Carrie Fisher to play her co-star Rob Delaney’s particularly heinous mother, Mia, on the show. “You were giving an award at the Attitude Awards in London and you did this great speech, and Rob and I were in the audience,” Horgan told Fisher at Tuesday’s Tribeca Tune-In event for Catastrophe, moderated by Vulture’s own E. Alex Jung. “I turned to Rob, and I went, That’s your awful mother!”

The part was something Fisher was actually interested in considering the lack of roles for older women. “I did really want to play an awful person,” Fisher said. “There are not a lot of choices for women past 27. I don’t wait by the phone.”
Carrie Fisher’s Other TV Series Work
Fisher’s recent television work includes two turns as Cat on Bravo‘s Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce. Between 2005 and 2016, she voiced the character of Angela on the animated FOX TV series, Family Guy. She also played herself in a 2014 episode of the CBS sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, called “The Convention Conundrum.”
Much of Fisher’s small screen work involved TV movies. Still, she appeared in series like 30 Rock, Weeds, Smallville, and Jack & Bobby. In addition, Fisher guest starred on Laverne & Shirley, Faerie Tale Theatre, Amazing Stories, Frasier, Sex and the City, and more.
A prolific author and talented feature film script doctor, Carrie Fisher also wrote a 1993 episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, as well as a 1997 episode of Roseanne.
Fisher’s only child, Billie Lourd, plays Chanel #3 on the Scream Queens TV show, on FOX.
