Rising Star, Sing Your Face Off: ABC TV Shows Cancelled, No Season Two

Rising Star TV show on ABC: canceled, no season 2Some singing shows have been very popular while others have been flops. ABC hasn’t been very popular in this category and has cancelled tow of their recent entries — Rising Star and Sing Your Face Off. Neither will be returning for a second season.

On Rising Star, the home audience votes for singers and helps determine who will move on in the singing competition via an app. Brad Paisley, Kesha, and Ludacris are the show’s “experts” while Josh Groban is the series’ host.

Airing on Sunday nights, the show’s 10 episodes averaged a 1.06 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.08 million viewers. It was once of the network’s top-rated summer series but the ratings were still low.

On Sing Your Face Off, celebrities undergo makeovers and try to duplicate the performances of iconic music artists. It’s hosted by John Barrowman and judged by Debbie Gibson, David Allen Grier, and Darrell Hammond.

The network ran the six episodes on Saturday nights and averaged a 0.65 rating in the demo with 2.73 million. It was one of ABC’s lowest-rated series.

The network has released their plans for this summer’s programming and neither show is coming back. Given the ratings, that’s not a big surprise.

Also, earlier this year, ABC President Paul Lee said, “I don’t think were going to be trying [another singing show] for a little bit.”

What do you think? Did you like Rising Star or Sing Your Face Off? Do you think either (or both) should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
