TV show description:
Hosted by Josh Groban, this singing competition follows a group of aspiring singers as they audition in live performances. Celebrity experts like Brad Paisley, Kesha, and Ludacris have their input but the viewers at home are the real judges.
During the performances, viewers can vote via an App in real time to determine if the singer will advance in the competition. Each performance begins with the contestant singing behind a screen called “The Wall.” If the contestant receives 70% of “Yes” votes, he/she moves on to the next round. The experts each have 7% of the vote, which is added to the percentage should they vote “Yes.”
Adding to the performer’s pressure, is the fact that they can see how the voting is going during the performance, so the feedback is immediate.
As the weeks progress, competitors are eliminated if their performances fail to raise the wall. In the final stage of the competition, four singers will compete to win the title of “The Next Rising Star.”
Episode #10 — Finals
The experts voted with their phones so that their votes were equal to a person at home. Only the East Coast could vote in the finals. Jesse Kinch won the competition and sang “Fortunate Son” with 87% and “Love, Reign o’er Me” with 76%.
First aired: August 24, 2014.
