We’ll get to see Dean continue to grow during the 2022-23 television season. The Wonder Years has been renewed for a second year on ABC. The first season’s finale airs next Wednesday, May 18th.
A coming-of-age comedy series, The Wonder Years TV show was inspired by the original 1988 series. This incarnation stars Don Cheadle, Elisha “EJ” Williams, Dule Hill, Saycon Sengbloh, Laura Kariuki, Julian Lerner, Amari O’Neil, and Milan Ray. Set in the late 1960s, the series takes a nostalgic look at the Williams family — Black middle-class residents of Montgomery, Alabama — through the point of view of imaginative 12-year-old son Dean (Williams). The story is narrated by Dean as an adult (Cheadle). His hopeful and humorous recollections of his past spotlight the ups and downs of growing up in that time and place, as well as the friendship, laughter, and lessons Dean encountered along the way.
Airing on Wednesday nights, the first season of The Wonder Years averages a 0.42 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.36 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). It’s a middle-of-the-road performer when compared to ABC’s other scripted shows. In the live+7 day ratings (which includes delayed viewing), the series averages a 0.60 demo and 2.97 million viewers.

A launch date for season two will be announced this summer. Today, ABC also renewed America’s Funniest Home Videos (season 33), American Idol (season 21), The Bachelor (season 27), Big Sky (season three), Celebrity Wheel of Fortune (season three), The Conners (season five), Home Economics (season three), A Million Little Things (season five), and Shark Tank (season 14).
