Last year, during the regular television season, we tracked the ratings of 26 scripted ABC TV shows. How to Get Away with Murder ran in about the middle of the pack in terms of both its demo rating and total audience averages. As a TV series ages, costs rise, but unless or until things get too dire, they usually hang on until they have a good-sized syndication package. Now that How to Get Away with Murder is entering its fifth season and should hit 75 episodes, we’re left to wonder how soon it will end. Shonda Rhimes now has an exclusive deal with Netflix, so there could be less incentive to keep this drama, once it starts showing some wear and tear. Will How to Get Away with Murder be cancelled or renewed for season six? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
An ABC legal thriller, How to Get Away with Murder stars Viola Davis, Billy Brown, Jack Falahee, Aja Naomi King, Matt McGorry, Karla Souza, Charlie Weber, Liza Weil, and Conrad Ricamora. Amirah Vann, Rome Flynn, and Timothy Hutton have joined as series regulars in season five. The story centers on the world of Middleton University Professor Annalise Keating (Davis). Murder, deception, fear and guilt bind her to her long-time associates and students. This season, a new mystery involving one of their own will unfold, as relationships are fractured, and new secrets are exposed.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
