Starz carries a small but varied slate of original, scripted TV series. From contemporary crime dramas like Power, to time traveling sagas such as Outlander and the glorified gore that is Ash Vs Evil Dead, there seems to be something for everything. Enter the new Howards End, a TV show adaptation of EM Forster’s classic novel. Even if this latest take on a turn-of-the-20th-Century masterpiece proves competitive in the Nielsen ratings game, will it matter, or is this “limited” series but a mini-series, regardless? Will Howards End be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
A Starz Edwardian period drama, Howards End stars Hayley Atwell, Philippa Coulthard, Alex Lawther, Tracey Ullman, Julia Ormond, Matthew Macfadyen, Joseph Quinn, Rosalind Eleazar, Joe Bannister, Bessie Carter, and Jonah Hauer-King. The story centers on Margaret (Atwell) and Helen Schlegel (Coulthard), two unique, self-reliant sisters, as they try to make their way, in a world in flux. While the unconventional Margaret negotiates her relationship with traditionalist Henry Wilcox (Macfadyen), husband of her late friend, Ruth (Ormond), the impetuous Helen sets out to help a young bank clerk, Leonard Bast (Quinn), who has powerful aspirations well beyond his station. The drama unfolds in London and at the Wilcox family’s country home — Howards End.
