The Crown: Season Five Won’t Be Released on Netflix Until 2022

The Crown TV show on Netflix: (canceled or renewed?)

Fans of The Crown will have a bit of a wait after the new season airs. The series will not return with its fifth season until 2022. The series will resume production on season five next June with Imelda Staunton in the role of Queen Elizabeth II. This means the sixth and final season will likely film in 2022 and air in 2023.

As fans may recall, this type of long break is not uncommon for the historical drama. The Netflix series had a similarly long hiatus between the second and third seasons.

Fans still have season four ahead, however, so there is not a complete lack of new content ahead. Per Deadline, production wrapped on season four of The Crown before COVID-19 shut things down.  Season four will take viewers through 1990 and will introduce Lady Diana Spencer. Olivia Colman plays the Queen.

What do you think? Are you surprised by The Crown’s long break between seasons four and five? Are you excited for season four of this Netflix series?
