Although its ratings have dropped off some over the years, The Walking Dead TV show is still the best rated scripted AMC TV series, so a network-dictated cancellation seems unlikely at this point. Where the Nielsen ratings are concerned, the horror series even dwarfs its prequel — Fear the Walking Dead. Although season eight kicks off with episode 100 — an ideal amount for syndication, last spring at PaleyFest, showrunner Scott M. Gimple teased (joked?) that it would also kick off the next 100 episodes. Since The CW‘s former cancellation bait, Supernatural, has 300 episodes in its sights, who are we to judge? Let’s just let the eighth season ratings speak for themselves. Will The Walking Dead be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned.

The eighth season of The Walking Dead on AMC kicks off with Rick (Lincoln) and company banding together with the Kingdom and Hilltop, in order to bring the fight to Negan (Morgan) and the Saviors. **Update below.
