Paramount Network was Spike TV, until parent-company Viacom rebranded it earlier this year. It then experienced something of a rocky start. Even though season one was in the can, the network postponed, rescheduled, and then cancelled its Heathers TV series adaptation, without airing it, because school violence is all too real in this day and age. They also tried to move the second season of Nobodies over from TV Land, but the fans didn’t follow, so that plan was abandoned. Enter the American Woman TV show. Is this 1970s period piece the program which will finally put the renamed cable network on the map? Will American Woman be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A Paramount Network dramedy, inspired by the childhood of Kyle Richards, American Woman stars Alicia Silverstone, Mena Suvari, Jennifer Bartels, Makenna James, Lia McHugh, Cheyenne Jackson, James Tupper, Diandra Lyle, Tobias Jelinek, Jonathan Chase, and Sam Morgan. The series centers on Bonnie (Silverstone), a single mother of two daughters. Second-wave feminism is on the rise, and the sexual revolution is in full force, when the heroine discovers her husband, Steve (Tupper), is having an affair. Now, Bonnie has to figure out how to make it on her own, with a little help from her friends, Diana (Bartels) and Kathleen (Suvari).
