It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Hoechlin. Hoechlin has been cast as Superman/Clark Kent in the second season of the Supergirl  TV show on The CW. The show debuted on CBS in the fall of 2015. In danger of being cancelled after its first season, The CW, which is owned by parent companies CBS Corporation and Warner Brothers, renewed the super-hero drama for a second season.

Based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Supergirl hails from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, Andrew Kreisberg, and Sarah Schechter. The Supergirl TV series cast includes: Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harwood, and Calista Flockhart.

Deadline reports:

Superman will make his debut on the DC Television universe, which also includes The Flash, Arrow, and Legends Of Tomorrow, at the start of Supergirl‘s second season when he visits Kara in National City.

“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” said Andrew Kreisberg, executive producer of Supergirl. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

The decision to include Superman as a major part of Supergirl‘s roster of characters (he is briefly shown in flashback on the Supergirl pilot) is something of a change in policy for DC Comics’ television properties. Kreisberg, who co-created The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and Legends Of Tomorrow, has been candid in past interviews about the fact that Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman were off limits to the CW’s DC-related TV shows. That seems to have changed as part of the recent reorganization at Warner Bros, which saw management of the studio’s ongoing DC Universe films reshuffled in response to the muted critical and audience reaction to Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Between 2003 and 2007, Hoechlin played Martin Brewer on 7th Heaven. He played McReynolds in the 2016 film, Everybody Wants Some! He plays Boyce Fox in the Fifty Shades of Grey sequels: Fifty Shades Freed and Fifty Shades Darker.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Tyler Hoechlin? Do you think he has been well cast as Superman?
