The women and men of the New York City PD’s 16th precinct will return to fight the good fight. NBC has renewed its Law & Order: Special Victims Unit TV show for a 20th season. The Dick Wolf procedural remains the longest-running, non-animated primetime TV series currently on a major broadcast network.

An NBC legal-crime drama, Law & Order: SVU stars Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, and Raúl Esparza. The police procedural centers on Lt. Olivia Benson (Hargitay) and her elite squad of New York City Police Department detectives who investigate crimes including sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: A Look at the Ratings

The 19th season of Law & Order: SVU is averaging a 1.28 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.971 million viewers. Compared to season 18, that’s down by 4.56% in the demo, but it is up by 2.50% in viewership. When compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows we are tracking, the series remains a top-three performer in the demo and a top-five performer in terms of total audience size.

Dick Wolf has had a very big night with NBC. The network also issued renewals to his Chicago franchise: Chicago Fire (season seven), Chicago PD (season six), and Chicago Med (season four).
