TV show description:
In this reality show hosted by Jonathan Karsh, 40 children from the ages of 8 to 15 try to rebuild a city in 40 days with little or no help from adults. Living in abandoned Bonanza City, New Mexico, the children are guided by four group leaders to create their own government. They must also prepare their own meals, carry in their own water, and oversee the local businesses.
The children are divided into four districts and compete for rewards for their groups and for their new society. Timed challenges involve carrying water, finding special cards on corralled sheep, putting pictures of U.S. presidents in chronological order, and collecting golden eggs.
The district who wins a challenge is awarded the privilege of being the “upper class” and receives $1.00 in wages and no work assignments. Second place contestants are designated as merchants and work in the stores of the city for $.50. Third place must handle the cooking for $.25 and last place cleans the outhouses and launders clothing for $.10. If all districts finish their challenge within the allotted time, the entire town receives a reward. The Town Council then must choose between fun reward options (a pizza party, a television, or a barbecue) and something that would benefit their community (water pumps, paint, or a collection of books for a library).
The Town Council meets every few days to discuss issues the young citizens may be having. Issues include deciding whether to kill chickens for meat or how late a curfew should be. At Town Council, the leaders award gold stars to contestants who have exceeded expectations on a certain task or demonstrated noble leadership. The gold stars are worth $20,000 each and the winners are given the opportunity to call home to tell their family the good news.
please give kid nation a second chance Please I know that there is kids that would like to do it. I would like to see a 3rd season to come out please think about it.
please give kid nation a second chance
I want this show over and over again and I really wanted to be on their show. Now that it is cancelled I can do that anymore.Honestly it is a great experience for kids to have to build a new place that has failed.Together they can make a difference. So please consider bringing kid nation back because everyone loved that show so much just like I love love love the show.
The fact that the show has been cancelled has really angered me. I was 11 years old watching it in my moms room and I adored every moment of it. I remember Johnathan saying that it was the ‘season’ finale so I got excited thinking that there was going to be a new season. When I realized there wasn’t going to be a new one, I got very angry, frustrated, and threatened to attack anyone responcible for it ending. I really REALLY miss Kid Nation and would give/do anything to have it brought back to our TV’s on Wednesday Nights.… Read more »
I watched this show every week with my then 8-year old daughter. We loved it, and I know she would love to have been on it…at her current age of 12, and at 12 I would probably have allowed it for the great experience if would have been for her. We were hoping for repeat seasons, but unfortunately they never came.
I cannot belive this show was caancelled that show was amazing my kids wanted tobe in the second season
Oh my God, how horrible! You would subject your kids to that?? Ugh.
