There won’t be any more Ascension, at least on Syfy. The cable channel has told Deadline that, “We were very happy with Ascension as an event series, but with so much high profile development in the works, we have decided not to pursue a full series.”
Airing in December 2014, Ascension follows an alternate reality in which, in 1963, President Kennedy and the government sent 600 volunteers (men, women, and children) into space on a century-long voyage aboard a self-sustaining generation ship. The cast includes Tricia Helfer, Gil Bellows, Brian Van Holt, Andrea Roth, Brandon P. Bell, Jacqueline Byers, Tiffany Lonsdale, and P.J. Boudousqué.
When Syfy ordered the six hour episodes of Ascension last year, the plan was to make it a regular series if the mini-series was successful enough — ala Battlestar Galactica. The ratings were okay but certainly nothing to write home about.
It’s unclear if the producers will try to find a home for Ascension elsewhere.
What do you think? Did you like the Ascension series? Would you have watched it as a regular weekly TV show?
Bring Back Ascension!
With us sheltering in place, the premise of the show has merit
original and interesting series that deserves a season 2
Ascension was very well done. Fantastic story line
I loved this show. It sounded just like MKUltra experiments often spoken about in dark internet forums. I would have loved to find out what planet that was that that guy was teleported to.
I would have watched a 2nd season.
Fiction obliterates Science in this series. Any clever High School student on the crew would be able to detect that something was impossible about gravity on the ship. Relativity is hammered so badly that Star Trek would even blush. The sexual tension and the cloak and dagger of the series may appeal to a desire for drama, but once the reveal is shown anyone with any knowledge of physics is totally put off. What is my problem fans may ask? Gravity
