While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

Why did they cut the episodes with Larry’s character? He is the best part of the show.
I think Numb3rs is a highly original, exciting, and entertaining show. CBS should not cancel it. My full review http://paullevinson.blogspot.com/2010/01/numb3rs.html
So there going ot probably cancel an amazing show and fill it with a crap show like Flashpoint. I’m trying to be optimistic. Maybe they won’t cancel the show. If Numb3rs does get canceled then the only good show on on Frisday nights will be Ghost Whisperer. Is CBS stupid because it sure sounds like it. Flashpoint is the stupidest show anyone could have ever thought up ans they are going to replace Numb3rs for it. If they want to put Flashpoint on than they should cancel the even stupider Three Rivers. Well if they cancel Numb3rs and put on… Read more »
I can’t believe CBS is going to cancel Numb3rs. It’s one of the best TV shows of current times. I was just watching Season 5 extra’s on the DVD and it showed everyone celebrating 100 episodes…..it’s sad that just a few months later CBS is cancelling the show. All the good shows seem to get cancelled! I always find it frustrating that you just get into a series and it gets cancelled!
Really hope that Numb3rs isn’t cancelled. It is one of the best shows on the air right now. Other shows such as “The Unit” and “The Border” have also been very enthralling to watch but sadly they have both been cancelled. Soon there will be nothing left worth turning the TV on for. I think Numb3rs works well because there are the elements of the math, the drama, the Epps family dynamics and the eye candy “Colby and David”.
I agree, I really hope they don’t cancel Numb3rs. I even watch the repeats again because I enjoy them so much. I always watch Numb3rs first when I’m reviewing my recorded programs.
This season of Numb3rs has not only been the highest quality since season 3, but some of the best television I’ve ever seen! It’d be so stupid to cancel Numb3rs! The show is still genius and hilarious and exciting! It’s definitely my favorite show that’s on right now, hands down.
No offence to Sophina Brown but for goodness sakes get rid of Nikki Betancourt. She is irritating and the character just does not work. Unlike previous female FBI characters Megan Reeves and Terry Lake she does not seem to be a team player and this makes her hard to like
NO WAY!!!
“The Unit,” which had a solid core audience, was replaced by “Three Rivers, which has failed to gain any kind of audience. ” Now it seems CBS is out to cancel another well-written and well worth watching show. Wonder what CBS will put in its place?
you can,t cancel numbers, its the best show on tv to watch. You dont get many good tv show to watch these days. It’s so frustrating to the loyal viewers when you cut a show short, all show need a good ending. but please dont cancel it, its bad enough that you cancel life.
This is a chicken-and-egg question. The fact is that the quality of the show has dropped, which would seem to me to have a lot to do with the ratings drop. The film quality is terrible this season. I’m one of the folks who have quit watching on a regular basis. The loss of Peter MacNicol, and the awful film quality detract from what was a great show in the past.
Please dont cancel the show!! It’s so frustrating to the loyal viewers when you cut a show short or don’t even bother wrapping it up and doing a proper ending if you are going to cancel it.
This show should NOT be cancelled. Like others have said, it’s the only intelligent television show running. Don’t abandon us geeks just because numbers (pardon the pun) are down.
I just recently started watching this show, and fell in love with it at once. It is a show that is good for all ages, and everyone can relate to at least one character. It would be a shame to see it go.
Ever since Diane Farr left the regular cast something’s been missing. Add to that the fact that it’s in the worst time slot ever, it’s a miracle it lasted this long and that’s a shame because it is a really well put together show!
agree with entire comment. especially about diane farr, she was a great part of the team.
