Fans of Absolutely Fabulous are always ready for a reunion. Since the small screen can no longer contain the ladies who lush, Fox Searchlight Pictures and BBC Films are making a feature film, and have announced that principal photography has begun.
Per Variety, Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, “…has started to shoot in the U.K. and the South of France for seven weeks. The film will be released next year.” Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley return as Edina and Patsy. They are joined by Julia Sawalha as Saffy; Jane Horrocks as Bubble; and June Whitfield as Mother.

Mandie Fletcher (Absolutely Fabulous) is directing from a script penned by Saunders, who is also among the project’s executive producers.
Here is the studios’ description of the film: “Appropriate for their big screen debut, Edina and Patsy are still oozing glitz and glamour, living the high life they are accustomed to; shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots. Blamed for a major incident at an uber fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forever more!”
