NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
I was fan #1, since watched all 5 shows. Networks should get their act together, there are shows with potential that only after a few episodes get cancelled. Please NBC air the remaining 3 episodes, do it for your audience that loves your shows. If there was a customer complaint hotline, NBC and other networks will know why their shows have no audience. When last NBC told their audience to watch DIG (USA) at 10 pm, the same time as Allegiance I knew NBC was going to pull the plug. And also I dislike the Slap and its getting a… Read more »
This show was so much better than half of the crap we watch on TV, I don’t know why they did that. They also did the same thing to the show called “Siberia”. What is wrong with NBC?
Why would a network cancel a show after 5 shows?!? This is a well written show with an exemplary cast. Canceling this program would be unfair, premature and a mistake. The writers & cast deserve better – a chance to reach others & succeed. It’s disappointing & frustrating to see good programming meet an early death, especially when so many silly and senseless shows continue to be renewed. Please keep this program on the air – even if it means moving it to another time slot. Thank you.
I agree with S. Peters.
Thanks a lot NBC. I was watching Allegiance, but I am not part of your golden age group so I guess you don’t care that I have been watching. I also watch and like “The Slap”. I am disgusted with your decision!
I liked it way better than the slap, so I guess you know why I don’t go to Vegas at all! Actually, I didn’t see a real resemblance to the Americans. once you let go of the idea that it was Soviet Union against United States and saw how it was different, I think that you could separate the two. obviously no one agrees with me. I’m now batting a thousand.
This is just BS. I really like the show and just DVR’d the last episode. Why would anyone order a show and then cancel it so soon? IT was just getting really good. I just hate when the network’s cancel a show that is good. You people at the network’s suck.
Agree.
NBC did not even give the show a chance, maybe a poor time slot. I was really getting into the show which is much better tan most of the crap on tv. Blacklist is another show that is great. I record many shows that conflict with others I wish to watch. The networks program to compete with other shows, so one must record them to watch later.
I watched it once or twice, but it was not as interesting as other shows that I watched, so scrubbed it for my must watch list. Actually I record all the programs that I watch, so even if there is a competing show that I watch, I could have watched them both anyhow. I guess a lot of us are getting tired of watching cold war stories.
No one asked me what I thought…I loved the show.
Watched it 2x, copycat of The Americans, if it had been a different model, maybe it would have been OK, but I’m so tired of these shows cloning each other over and over and over. What a waste.
I thought the same thing when I saw the preview.
I was wondering how a show so much like the established – and decent IMO – show The Americans was going to fare.
It seemed like a pretty limited audience that would watch this type of drama and I had no interest in picking up a second show of the same genre.
Never saw it, never knew it was premiering. I think that in itself might be proof how far down NBC has fallen. I don’t even watch the channel enough to know what is new on it. I watch the blacklist and sometimes the voice…that’s it. Even their news division is in the dumpers. I am a loyal CBS daytime viewer and I think NBC not having a big daytime viewership hurts their price time as well…that’s when CBS advertises their prime time shows to death…but I do have to say I know what is coming on new that looks interesting… Read more »
I really enjoyed the program…thought it had promise. Sorry to see it cancelled so soon with no closure.
I agree!!! Since you have 4 more episodes already filmed – why not at least let those of us who are interested view the rest of them on the internet??? At least it would provide more of an ending for those of us who liked and watched it.
Casting was good but storyline was ridiculous. Networks continue to discourage viewership by failing to allow some sort of completion to series. I have recorded THE SLAP but not watched it in case it was cancelled.
Yes I like this show, it was a slow start but grew on me. NBC NEEDS TO AIR THE REMAINING EPISODES AND AT LEAST GIVE THE FANS CLOSURE TO THIS SERIES!!!!!! SHAME ON NETWORK TELEVISION, THEY DON’T GIVE SHOWS A CHANCE ANYMORE!!!!!!
It was a really ridiculous premise, completely unbelievable. But I enjoyed it and am sorry to see it go.
