TV show description:
Dr. John Becker (Ted Danson) owns his own practice in the Bronx neighborhood of New York City.
He’s a good doctor but is annoyed by his patients and just about everyone else in the world — including sarcastic office manager Margaret Wyborn (Hattie Winston) and his muddle-headed assistant, Linda (Shawnee Smith).
The little happiness that Becker finds is eating at Reggie’s Diner, run by former model Regina “Reggie” Kostas (Terry Farrell) who inherited the business from her father.
Other regular customers are Becker’s best friend, blind newsstand operator Jake Malinak (Alex Désert); Reggie’s former high school classmate, lecherous Bob (Saverio Guerra); and later, Jake’s scheming friend, Hector Lopez (Jorge Garcia).
After years of flirtation between Becker and Reggie, the two finally sleep together and Reggie abruptly leaves town because of her embarrassment. The diner is taken over by a perky neighbor, Chris Connor (Nancy Travis), who also has an on-again off-again relationship with the grumpy physician.
