The series aired this fall on Tuesday nights and typically followed episodes of The Voice, NBC’s highest-rated non-scripted series. It started out well but the ratings declined in later weeks, even before the series was moved to 8pm.
Variety reports that there were still discussions about reworking and renewing Best Time Ever for a second season. Ultimately, the series was deemed too expensive to produce and too exhausting for the host.
Still, NBC plans to stay in business with Harris. Paul Telegdy, NBC’s president of late-night and alternative programming, said, “We’re proud of Neil for giving it his all and we have steely resolve to work together on something new.”
Could that “something new” be another variety show? In a tweet about the end of Best Time Ever, Harris seemed to hint that could be the case.
So @BestTimeEver happened. Super grueling yet exuberant fun. I'm proud of what we did – live! – and still believe in variety. Stay tuned.

What do you think? Do you think Best Time Ever should have been renewed for a second season? Would you watch a new variety show with Harris as the host?
