HBO has decided that the fifth season will be the end of Boardwalk Empire. Will this be the show’s most popular season yet? Will the cable channel regret ending the show or is the time right?
In the final season of Boardwalk Empire, the end of Prohibition is near and Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) looks to legitimize himself through alliances with liquor producers. Rivals Lucky Luciano (Vincent Piazza) and Meyer Lansky seek to consolidate their power and eliminate all competition — by any means necessary. The rest of the cast includes Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Shea Whigham, Stephen Graham, Michael Kenneth Williams, Gretchen Mol, Paul Sparks, Jeffrey Wright, Anatol Yusef, Patricia Arquette, and Ben Rosenfield.
Final season averages: 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.01 million total viewers.
For reference: The fourth season of Boardwalk Empire averaged a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.05 million viewers.

What do you think? Do you like Boardwalk Empire TV show? Do you think it should end or continue for a sixth season?
Season five premiere was beautifully done! I was surprisingly impressed with the childhood memories and how they were handled. After watching the worst season of True Blood I was worried when I found out that Boardwalk was going to do a similar move in the show’s final season. After watching the premiere it is obvious the writers know how to give back story properly without making it feel out of place and unnecessary. It is too bad the show runner for True Blood did not ask for advice before attempting and failing miserably because the entire last two seasons of… Read more »
One of the most important shows ever made. Truly hate to see it end but I know they will do it with grace and dignity. Season 5 premiere was fantastic as expected. I don’t know why HBO would cancel this show. There was so much they could have explored between 1924 and 1931. Moreover, the characters were only getting richer and with the addition of the Doctor and J Edgar Hoover, the storyline was going deeper than any other show ever with the grande expection of the Wire. Personal note: jimmy was my favorite character and his story was so… Read more »
Juicing was a very interesting character, but was totally created for the series. Was never mentioned in the book. They created several characters like that. Richard was another who became a huge part of the show, but is never mentioned in the book. I doubt they’ll do it, but I’d really like to see them do a documentary from the real history of the book once the series is done. The actual history of how Atlantic City was created out of a bug infested sand bar/swamp area is really pretty cool too. Then how much corruption took place through the… Read more »
Damn spell check on iPhone ….Jimmy not “Juicing” ….Hell if I know how it happened
It’s amazing that they took just one segment of the book and stretched it into five seasons. I guess I can understand why they aren’t moving on in the real history where there’s plenty of crime and coruption to go around all the way up through the 70’s at least (FYI: The book reads like a historical account. No where near the fast paced action of the series). But then they’d basically have to reset with mostly new characters and try to sell a different era to the viewers who have really dived deep in the prohibition story line, and… Read more »
I’ve been watching BWE from the beginning, truely hate to see it being cancelled.
