Created by Robert and Michelle King, The Good Wife ran for seven seasons on CBS. The series was never a hit in the ratings but it was a source of pride for the network and kept being renewed. How has the Kings’ new summer series, BrainDead, been performing? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On BrainDead, Laurel Healy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has returned home to Washington, DC to work for her brother, Senator Luke Healy (Danny Pino) on Capitol Hill. She is caught in the midst of two huge problems: the government has stopped working due to budgetary disagreements, and mysterious bugs are eating the brains of a growing number of members of Congress and Hill staffers. The rest of the cast includes Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, Nikki M. James, Johnny Ray Gill, Charlie Semine, and Jan Maxwell.
Debuting in June, the first episode of BrainDead drew a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.59 million viewers. It was an unimpressive start to be sure and the numbers have fallen much lower as the weeks have progressed. The seventh episode’s ratings represented a new low, drawing a 0.3 demo rating with 1.75 million viewers.
Despite the talent behind the program, it is highly unlikely that CBS will want to invest in a second season of BrainDead. Hopefully the last installments will provide enough closure to satisfy the show’s audience. Episode 11 is scheduled for next week and the last two of the season are set for September 11th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the BrainDead TV show? Should it be cancelled? Would you watch a second season?
10/18 update: CBS has cancelled BrainDead after one season. Details here.
Please give Hilary grief along with Trump as it’s very one sided 🙂
Please renew this series with all the BS that the presidential candidates have put out there this show has a great comedy outlook at the way Washington D.C. people look at the way things are done in the every day political arena good or bad. Great job by the writers and artists producers. Thank you
BrainDead is the best show on TV. The writing is brilliant and the cast is talented. Tony Shalaub predictably brings his character to life. There is nothing else to watch except reality TV, Kim Kardashian and mindless game shows. This is the best new program in years. CBS, please give BrainDead time for an audience to find it. You must not cancel this quality show. I look forward to it all week!! Renew!!!
I think Braindead is one of the most original and entertaining TV shows that I have seen in a long time! CBS – Please renew this show!
I like it – different
Love it
It is a winner!!! Simply LOVE it!!! Renew, Renew, RENEW!!!!
RENEW!!! It’s so hilarious. Tony Shalhoub is great in anything.
I think Braindead is GREAT!!!!! Having the story take place in Washington DC is brilliant as we approach the presidential election. The political humor is wonderful, and the understated sarcasm offers respite from our broken political system and our self-serving politicians. We need more shows like this, and I applaud the great cast and clever writers. BRAVO!!! Please give the show more publicity to help it survive.
Renew renew renew renew!
I can’t believe they are considering canceling Brain Dead. It is a unique show. My friends and I all watch it and later discuss our favorites scenes. Don’t cancel this show! I can see many interesting episodes in the future!
Great new show, very poor time slot. We dvr and binge watch. Tony Shalhoub is fantastic!
Please renew.
This show is my favorite new show of the season. It’s a gem. Between bad time slots, changing time slots and the Olympics, little marketing – don’t think it has been given a fair shot. Please renew for season 2!!
Brain Dead makes Sundays the best night of the week. It’s so much fun to watch. I’m laughing one minute, then totally grossed out the next, then on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next. CBS needs to renew this show and market it so that people know about it because they are missing the BEST show.
The only reason for the low rating is the 10pm Sunday night time slot. A lot of people have never watched it. Smart, funny, full of satire, and just the right amount of wierd. The characters are great.
