What a different a day or two can make. After cancelling Breaking In late on Tuesday night, FOX is reportedly reconsidering the decision.
FOX is in talks with Sony Pictures TV (the show’s studio) to find a way to possibly bring it back for a second season. No decision is expected to be made until after next week’s upfronts.
Breaking In debuted in early April to a healthy 3.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.82 million total viewers. With the exception of the fact that it lost a large percentage of the American Idol lead-in, that looked very good. The following week, the series fell 26% to a 2.6 rating and 7.79 million viewers.
Ratings fell a bit after that but seem to have evened off at a 2.4 rating. It’s the sixth highest-rated scripted series currently on the network and outperforms the network’s other two live-action comedies. Of course, it also has the best lead-in audience on television.
If Breaking In does get a renewal, this will be the second time that the Christian Slater comedy has cheated death. FOX initially passed on the Breaking In pilot last year but execs changed their minds and gave it a greenlight later on.

I might not consider that American Idol lead in as a benefit to a show like Breaking In. It seems the two shows have very different demographics. Breaking In would probably do better with a lead in from House. Fox is making a similar programming error by having Raising Hope coming after Glee.

This show is smart and hysterical with an excellent cast. Fox is the worst at tv. The epiome of their stupidity was when they cancelled arrested development. So please save this show!!!!!
thats the problem, its smart, fox only wants stupid plots and cheap reality shows… this is a great show and it would be a shame id it were canceled…

YES!!!! I hope they do bring it back for another season, it is the only show I look forward to nowadays and Christian Slater and the rest of the crew are pretty good together.

If Breaking In is renewed, Fox needs to promote the heck out of it. I think the ratings would be a bit better if they did.

Awesome, I hope they decide to renew it after all — or give Christian Slater another show to star in. I was surprised to hear it got cancelled at all, considering the ratings weren’t all that bad, with the exception of not keeping as much of its lead-in audience as execs were hoping for.
