Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders may have been cancelled, but one of its stars is staying at CBS. Recently, the network announced Daniel Henney has joined the cast of Criminal Minds.
Henney played Agent Matt Simmons on Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders for two seasons before CBS cancelled the spin-off earlier this year. He’ll reprise the same role for season 13 of Criminal Minds, which debuts on September 27th at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

CBS announced today that Daniel Henney has joined the cast of CRIMINAL MINDS as a series regular. Henney will continue in his role as Special Agent Matt Simmons, which he played for two seasons on CRIMINAL MINDS: BEYOND BORDERS.
Formerly with the International Response Team, Special Agent Simmons joins his colleagues in the Behavioral Analysis Unit, whom he has consulted with in the past, including helping with the release of Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) when he was arrested in Mexico last season.
Daniel Henney is a multi-talented actor and model who has graced the covers of top magazines around the world, as well as appearing in film and television. Some of his film credits include “Big Hero 6,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” “The Last Stand” and “Seducing Mr. Perfect.” His television credits include “Three Rivers,” HAWAII FIVE-0 and NCIS: LOS ANGELES, all on the Network, and “Revolution.”
The 13th season of CRIMINAL MINDS premieres Wednesday, Sept. 27 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT).

Of all the characters, Simmons was the weakest for me. Mae Jarvis, played by the hugely talented Annie Funke would have been the choice for me and it would have been interesting to mix things up with a few more women, not for the purposes of diversity or balance, but for the chance to create new dynamics, some of which could be conflicting. When females collide, I find it far more gripping than when men do and in a world of more competitive women, pitching them against each other at times would make things more compelling. excellent choice for criminal minds…………i think he will be a fantastic fit…….i have been watching criminal minds since day & i love the show………….wasnt to thrilled with the cast addition last season (the actor they just let go – sorry not recalling his name at the moment – i think his name was damon g. ??? – but he wasnt a good fit ) however i think daniel will fit right in ……………i did watch beyond borders but couldnt get into that…………it just had a chessy factor to it……not surprised it canceled………….looking forward to daniels role !!!!
Criminal minds beyond borders was better than the original criminal minds. Should’ve never been cancelled. I’m glad Daniel Henny found a new show. Henny was great on beyond borders.
I was hoping for this when they said Damon Gupton was let go. other than Gary Sinese, Daniel was my favorite on Beyond Borders.
I am an ardent fan of Criminal Minds and the show, Criminal Minds:Beyond Borders! I am looking forward to the start of the new season for Criminal Minds. I’m just sorry that Beyond Borders wasn’t renewed.

I think we get it. You only want to see typical “hot” females and screw any that don’t fit in your bubble. No need to keep pointing out repeatedly about wanting to see hot chicks. Girls have to look “hot” first. Anyone one that can act better than then, but don’t fit your hotness scale goes out the door. Every show or movie doesn’t have to have some over the top “hot” female actress. People like you make it so hard for anyone else that want to act. Loved Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders – sad to see it wasn’t renewed. Great actors & plots. Will be following these actors & their endeavors with Criminal Minds or similar programs. Well done.

Nice move. Henney is a superb actor and will make a nice, seamless fit. NOW… they need to add Gary Sinese to breathe new life into a Series which is getting a bit stale and in need of new Character- literally and figuratively. Sinese would be an even more perfect fit!
Awesome show. Great cast. Each character is unique and there seems to be camaraderie among the cast. Glad to have a new person joining an already smart and savvy cast.
