Dynasty: Alexis and Sable Reunited for Snickers

by Trevor Kimball, February 25, 2012

Dynasty Snickers commercialBy its eighth season, the ratings for Dynasty were on the decline. The show went from being seventh to 24th and was still a very expensive show to produce. The primetime soap was renewed for a ninth season by ABC but the budget was cut. Linda Evans departed in the early part of the season and Joan Collins was contracted to appear in just 13 of the 22 installments.

It became clear that the show was winding down but, in some ways, the storylines started focusing on the characters again instead of the opulence of earlier seasons. One highlight was the addition of Stephanie Beacham. Her Sable character from the two-season Colbys spin-off became a strong nemesis for Alexis (Collins) and filled a void when Collins wasn’t on screen. Some of the best scenes of the season involved the two divas squaring off with one another.

Well, the divas have been reunited — for a Snickers commercial of all things. Collins plays the alter-ego of an egotistical English football player who’s upset that someone has taken his deodorant. Mr. T was originally supposed to be the other character in the spot — a player who’d mad that he’s been pulled from the game –but Collins suggested her old Dynasty sparring partner, Beacham.

Collins told the Daily Mail, “When they said, ‘we need a similar lady to come on and be another diva,” I said, ‘well, there’s only one choice – Stephanie’. I mean, we had so much fun on Dynasty.”

Here’s the commercial, as well as some behind-the-scenes footage:

What do you think? Would you like to see the two actresses in a new TV project? How about on a current TV show?

Truly I believe that a new show with these 2 divas of our american culture would certainly rock cable television . Both character ‘s Alexis & Sable were without a doubt the greatest television divas ever. They need to create a new cable prime time drama with these 2, in the lead. It needs to be brought back this time by a cable station, and not ABC, NBC nor CBS. Maybe lifetime, or TBS, or Bravo, that way the show will be given a good chance to show off there talents. I know I would be watching for sure. Please… Read more »

I’m a 90’s kid, so I’m excused if I care less about this.

I hope they bring “Dynasty” back to prime time TV as soon as possible – with both of these actresses, and many others from the original – updated, and with younger actors added like the new “Dallas” on TNT. Linda Evans must return as well. There is so much they could do with this, and it was such a hit all over the world, it would be a hit. I enjoyed an article in Pop Confidential about this a few months ago. There is a Facebook group wanting to bring it to TNT as well (but I would prefer a… Read more »

Yeah, i watched all 13 ish years of Dallas and all 9 ish years of Dynasty and also warched Knots Landing, which spinned off from Dallas..it’s not likely that Dynasty would come back. Dallas can come back because this new Dallas will focus on the children of the original characters_ Dynasty didn’t have many children on it.
Maybe they can bring some of the Dynasty characters (Joan Collins) to guest star on Dallas_ since they both are rich families- there could be reason for them to move in the same social circles.

see you June 13 on TNT for the Dallas premiere
