On Extant, astronaut Molly Woods (Berry) returns to Earth after a year-long solo mission in outer space. Her reunion with her family is thrown into turmoil when it’s learned that she’s pregnant. Others in the cast include Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, Hiroyuki Sanada, Camryn Manheim, Grace Gummer, and Michael O’Neill.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. It has always amazed me that people will watch a show they do not like, especially with the volume of entertainment available to the public nowadays. I remember having three channels available while growing up and in those days we did sometimes watch things we didn’t like, awaiting the show following. But to do that today is insane, for Internet is everywhere and so are tv shows from the past and present. I totally love Extant! While insanity may well be a reasonable assumption in my professional field, I assure you I watch Extant and other shows for reasons other than personal pleasure – especially in the case of this horrid offering.
Both me and my wife thought it was too slow and most of the time boring. If there is a second season we will not watch.

Caught my attention right away! Great acting, exiting story line, and believable graphics. Only makes sense to renew a show like this. So make it happen please!

This is third rate science fiction with an unoriginal plot, boring, slow and should have been put to death instead of put to air. While Ms Berry looked OK as a dumb James Bond girl, she has no idea how to act like either a scientist or a mother (she must have great child minders). The series final was especially pathetic. I have also been watching the Swedish scifi series “Real Humans” on SBS which also deals with intelligent artificial humans and there is just no comparison. I have waited with great anticipation for the next extant showing! Finally a SciFi tv show with great merit & excellent acting, while carrying an interesting story line at the same time!? All the stops were pulled out on this show and it definitely shows! If the network cuts this show, I might give up tv totally because I am so very tired of great programming failing because the stupid Neilson Ratings poo-pooed another show that actually has some cerebral content to it. I watched every show. Loved it too. But I can see how a continued series could get boring. I was glad to have a closing on the show. I sometimes HATE shows get continued because they are never as good as the 1st series. Halley Berry was wonderful.
I am 70 and I have watched every episode-I hope there is a second season. Hopefully her “son” the alien will learn something about being human that he likes and decide that this is the part of himself he wants to nurture, anyway it should be interesting-I hope.
I think this show deserves another season, especially with the new storyline opportunities after the final episode of Season 1. I’ve wondered if those ratings include all the online viewing…which is where I watch things most, according to my schedule.

As an experienced writer/ producer, a professional movie critic for many years and a keen science fiction fan, it seems apparent to me that you have had little experience with the science fiction greats. If you like Extant, watch it, but don’t lecture people who offer differing opinions. I assume that this site exists for comments on the subject matter, not personal attacks. You only have to examine the viewing figures to see that the show hasn’t sufficient appeal to succeed.
I am 33 my husband 26 my kids 1, 4, 8, 12 we tape each episode n watch as a family. We even sometimes re watch episodes. Pleasssssse I pray there is another season its great.
I really love this show, I’ve been hooked from the very first episode. I think that this series deserves to have a season 2. All the actors within their own style handled their individual roles excellently. I think everyone held their own
